I first met Brandon in 2021 when he was dressed up as Kurt Cobain for Halloween. He mentioned that he had just started carving wood earlier that year and I asked to see a picture of his work. His nonchalant, humble introduction surprised me after nearly losing my breath at the first piece in his triptych. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen before. I could tell that he was finding his footing in a newly proclaimed identity as an artist.
I asked my friends if anybody else had seen his work after we left, and while everyone answered no, I felt like I found the best kept secret at the party. When I visited his Chelsea apartment doubling as his home studio, he was completing the first piece, Wandering, Why. It was still without color, and only the beginning marks were made on the second wood canvas. For the years to come, Brandon was exploring his craft and vision, while simultaneously getting acquainted with the modeling world. From former investment banker, to farmer, to artist, to model, Brandon continues to find a harmonious tie between all of these narratives and identities held within.
Four years later in 2025, I met him in his Williamsburg apartment to check in and see what was in the works. With a fully finished triptych, a new collection of miniatures commenting on the original triptych, a grotesquely beautiful furniture series, and a long stay modeling in Milan, what did he have to say next? Looking back upon his completed works, Brandon explains that the triptych, Self Examination, explores the inner madness we all share that goes beyond verbal and cerebral explanation. He questions identity, gender roles, intimate relationships, and resolution within. With his themes growing stronger, his focus becoming clearer, and his expression growing deeper, the reality of his world resonates within the viewer’s journey of discovering oneself.
